2026 EDIT: The rulebook and all my campaign notes are LIVE on Archive of Our Own. Links forthcoming.
On this, the eve of the release of the video game Mass Effect Andromeda, I have an important announcement to make.
I’m writing a Mass Effect larp!
I am writing a simple, role-play heavy larp campaign that almost anyone can pick up and learn the rules to or participate in with extremely minimal cost on costumes and gear.
Long story short: I LOVE Mass Effect. Also long story short: I’m a writer. The goal of this project is to combine those two passions to create a fun and interesting campaign.
CAMPAIGN INFO
Production Timeframe:
I’m already working on the rulebook. I plan to finish that up shortly, then I will run through the campaign this summer with a few close friends to make sure I work out any rule-based and story-based kinks. Then I will edit what remains and have the original campaign finished by N7 day, November 7th, 2017.
How to get it:
When I’m finished I will post the final version here and on my Patreon as PDF files for download in 2 forms; both the rulebook itself and a separate file for character sheets.
Cost:
FREE. As Mass Effect is an intellectual property specific to Bioware this is a fan production that I am not making any money off of, and will never ask for money for. Anyone who chooses to take my campaign template and make their own does so with the understanding that this is purely for fun and cannot charge any entrance fees to any games. Mass Effect Voyager will always be free to play and the rulebook free to download.
Materials’ Cost to Game Masters and Players:
Very minimal. All the people I know are pretty poor so this larp is designed so that you can get into it without starving yourself or breaking your back making a new costume. Example for players: if you’re playing a Quarian just wear a headscarf, if you’re playing a Turian just draw on your facial tattoos with a makeup pencil, if you need a space bodysuit just wear sports underarmor (it looks futuristic enough). Example for GM’s: paper image of a red door lock that needs to be hacked, string between two trees to indicate cover, Paragon & Renegade quicktime cards.
Note: This campaign is about 90% role-playing and 10% combat. Other GM’s can change this balance depending on how much money people can spend. Because this is supposed to be inexpensive this is NOT an airsoft larp. Any combat weapons should be Nerf (or similar) or beanbags (for biotics/bullets, depending on cost to player).
And now the most important part….the STORY!
